Goal of the site: to provide comprehensive mesothelioma information and asbestos information, resources and support all in one site.
Hi - my name is Liz. I am not in the medical or legal profession. I have a master's degree in counseling and a background in business. You might be asking yourself why I developed this website since most of the sites about this topic are developed and maintained by law firms.
I kind of stumbled into this. Two situations occurred in my life that piqued my curiosity. My husband purchased home build around 1915 when he was single. He had been working on renovating the house Like most people today, he didn't even think about asbestos when working on the renovations. He had an outside wall torn down and added a small bathroom. He also removed all of the floor tiles in the basement himself. I asked him if a mask had been worn, it had not. This worries me. However, as I told him, I guess will know in about 20 years if there were any harmful affects.
The other situation has to do with gardening. I am a very inexperienced gardner, and we have a vey large backyard on a hill that is visible to everyone who drives by. I was doing a lot of reading on how to plant ground cover. Several times I read the recommendation to use "vermiculite" when planting. Yet, I noticed that I could not buy vermiculite at any of the local hardware stores. As I read more about it, I saw that there were some warnings about it on the internet. I discovered that vermiculite and asbestos are both mined from the ground. Some vermiculite has asbestos contamination...meaning the asbestos could not be separated from the vermiculite.
We have 3 dogs we absolutely adore. The thought of them potentially developing
mesothelioma or asbestosis or lung cancer because I had used vermiculite (which I didn't), made me shudder. Not to mention the fact that the vermiculite would have been drug into the house by the dogs and we would have been exposed. Rocky, our bulldog is pictured to the right, when he was a puppy. Isn't he cute?!
These situations are very minor. However, they brought asbestos back into my consciousness. I did more research and realized that in general the public really does not know much about asbestos, and most people think the associated danger is a thing of the past. They are terribly wrong. Two fairly recent disasters drive home this point: Hurricane Katrina and 9/11. Thousands of people (maybe more) have been exposed to asbestos without realizing it. I think the fear of asbestos went out with the 70's and 80's.
Thus, the goal of this site is to provide comprehensive information on asbestos and mesothelioma and related issues to those directly involved as well as educate the general public. More people need to understand how important it is to take more precautions. The site is fairly new. However, it will grow to be the site with the most information for the mesothelioma survivor, patients, family, friends and anyone interested in learning more.
I spent many years working in the corporate world. Now, I work from my home. I love doing research on topics that can help people. I am not a web developer by trade. In fact, I am a novice. I was just fortunate enough to stumble upon a site that provides all of the necessary tools to novices in order for them to create and publish a successful website.
If you want, need, or would like to work from your home, visit the site that I use...

Thank you for taking the time to look at my site. I hope you have found it helpful. Check back periodically for updates, or be sure to add the RSS feed.
Warmest wishes,
Liz
